Communication Card - Portable AAC Visual Support

The Communication Card is a clear, simple and portable AAC visual support tool that offers children a quick and simple accessible way to communicate their everyday needs. This durable, double-sided communication card is a visual communication aid for nonverbal children, early communicators, and children with speech or language delays. It can also be a helpful support for minimally verbal kids, or those who may struggle at times with verbal communication due to anxiety or elective mutism.

This AAC card features 24 everyday words used throughout the day, represented by a simple symbol with matching text.

Made from flexible gloss plastic, it’s lightweight, easy to clean, and sized perfectly for quick access at school, daycare, home, or when out and about. The built-in lanyard slot allows the card to be attached using your own lanyard or our stretchy coil. It is easy to clip to backpacks, belt loops, lanyards, prams or wrist straps for quick access.

How do I use this AAC Card?

Learning to use an AAC system is just like learning to talk. A child will learn best by having the system modelled to them. In other words, the input matches the output. The most natural way for kids to become confident with an AAC system is to have their communication partners (that means you, their teachers and whoever they regularly communicate with) use that system as well. As you talk to them in everyday interactions, point to key word pictures as you go. This helps them to attach meaning to the symbols, as well as developing an understanding of how to use the system for real life communication (a range of pragmatic functions). The more practice and experience the child has, the more confident they will become.
